WHEN THE ELEMENTS OF EARTH AND AIR FORM AN ENSEMBLE

Like no other instruments, flute and harp together emanate a sense of harmony and peace. Particularly in a period of French music, which began at roughly the same time as the Impressionist art movement, and on whose memories Jacques Ibert sustained himself, peace achie-ves a scenic touch recalling its roots in an ancient shepherd idyll. It is one of the special attractions of this CD that it allows the audience to trace the rich facets that Fauré, Debussy and Ravel tried to use in order to track down those roots and listen to them in contrast to the rather courtly German composers of the 18th century. The acoustics of the monastery church of Springiersbach (near Bengel, Rhineland- Palatinate, Germany), where this CD was recorded, excellently support this purpose. Klauspeter Bungert.
